01Collection commands
DmOS accepts the | nomore filter, which turns off paging for that command only:
show firmware | nomore
show system | nomore
show running-config | nomore The first records the firmware version, the second the model and system state, and the third is the full configuration.
02When paging shows up anyway
Some DmOS outputs open a pager with --More-- or end in (END). In automatic collection, the tool has to answer them (space to continue, q to quit), or the session hangs until it times out.
Nexus already handles both cases and cleans terminal color codes before saving the file.
03Passwords in the file
Nexus does not remove passwords from Datacom configurations: the file keeps the configuration as the device prints it. That allows a full restore, but the backup server needs restricted access and cloud copies must live in a protected account.
04Automatic collection with Nexus
Nexus connects over SSH or Telnet, runs the three commands at the scheduled time, stores a new version when the configuration changes and shows the difference between any two dates. See also the backup best practices for ISPs.
